body acceptance workshops

WORSHIPPING OUR BODIES, LOVING OURSELVES: A BODY AFFIRMING, FAT ACCEPTING, SELF-ESTEEM BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN & GIRLS IN BIGGER BODIES

As women and girls in bigger bodies we are constantly expected to feel bad or guilty or ashamed about our bodies. We are taught to spend our lives making up for the fact that we're fat by making ourselves smaller, quieter, taking up less space. In the event that we dare to be bold enough to love our bodies exactly as they are—rolls, stretch marks, double chins and all—we become the targets of violence.

In this workshop, participants will explore what it means to "love your body" while living in a world that constantly tells us to hate it. This workshop offers a safer space for women and girls in larger bodies to discuss, celebrate, and worship the magnificence and resilience of their bodies. From transformational bodywork to revolutionary group discussions to sharing sacred space and exploring intersectionality, this workshop will offer you plenty of opportunities to learn some practical tools for unlearning internalized body shame and falling madly in love with yourself.

Embark on a transformational journey of provocative self-inquiry and social justice education grounded in compassionate embodied exploration that will inspire you to take your yoga and meditation practice off the mat and into your everyday life.

Designed for yogis, light workers and spirit junkies who are interested in seeing the world become a better place, this workshop provides an introduction to foundational social justice concepts and will illuminate the connection between social justice activism and yoga.

Through discussion, reflection and somatic practice, we will explore:

  • the connection between injustice, oppression and trauma and how this connection impacts us all
  • the tension between the spiritual truth of oneness and the very tangible reality of difference

Kundalini Yoga and Meditation Workshops

KUNDALINI BASICS: A WORKSHOP FOR BEGINNERS

Join me in a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of Kundalini Yoga. If you are new to the practice and are craving teachings geared towards beginners, this is the workshop for you. I’ll share the history of Kundalini Yoga, and you’ll learn the purpose of each element of a typical class. I’ll also share tips for best practice: how to properly do body locks (bandhas), basic breathing, get the most out of mantra, and ways to deepen concentration and relaxation. There can be a lot going on in a Kundalini Yoga practice, so the more knowledge you have, the quicker you’ll be able to focus and self-initiate when you’re in class.

KUNDALINI YOGA FOR BROWN BODIES

Come engage in a special kundalini yoga gathering for self-identifed black, brown, indigenous and people of colour.

In this workshop, we’ll explore a specific topic using literature from our lineages to guide our conversation and activate opportunities for self and communal healing, deep connection and ancestral wisdom. We'll breathe together, move together, meditate together and create space where we can be vulnerable with each other. The magic of this class is created by the energy of each person who enters it.

Kundalini Yoga for Brown Bodies is a queer & trans positive space. All genders, expressions, sizes and levels welcome.

KUNDALINI YOGA FOR ABUNDANT BODIES

“Yoga is not about self-improvement, it’s about self-acceptance.” — Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa

As people in larger bodies, we’re often reminded of the amount of space we take up and so we do our best to appear smaller than we really are. We dim our light. We hunch over. We place ourselves in corners. We wear clothes that cover our abundance. We make self-depricating jokes about our bodies. We decrease the magnitude, the magnificence, and the power of our presence. We deserve better and as expressions of the divine, we know better.

Join Demetria in a two-hour kundalini yoga practice of self-healing and self-acceptance.  You’ll experience:

  • breath work to experience the magnificence of your breath, lungs, and body
  • exercises to release any tension, residual trauma, fears, and blocked energy in your body
  • mantra technology (chanting) to experience a breakthrough in your self-confidence and sense of self-worth

Yoga for Abundant Bodies is an all levels, abundant body loving, intentional, sacred, and judgement-free practice of individual and communal self-care,self-love, and self-acceptance for people of all ethnicities, gender expressions, and orientations under the rainbow.

Kundalini Yoga TRAINING

KUNDALINI YOGA FOR EVERY BODY: CREATING BODY POSITIVE YOGA CLASSES FOR PEOPLE OF ALL SHAPES, SIZES & IDENTITIES

Coming out to a yoga class when you feel like your body doesn’t fit in to the so-called yoga norm can be intimidating, painful, and really quite stressful for many people.

In Kundalini Yoga it can be particularly tricky to offer modifications because of the dynamic and varied nature of each posture. In this workshop, participants will learn how to modify kundalini postures in ways that maintain the integrity of each kundalini kriya while simultaneously making the practice accessible to more bodies. Using a variety of props including blocks, bolsters, blankets, straps, the wall and more, participants will learn how to modify over 15 asanas (postures) including surya namaskar (sun salutation).

Whether you’re a Kundalini Yoga Teacher (certified or in-training) who wants to learn how to support students who are differently abled, in larger bodies, and/or recovering from injuries without singling them out or making them feel ignored, or you’re a Kundalini Yoga practitioner (new or seasoned) who wants to learn how to expand your practice through modifications, this workshop is for you.
