Be Your Own Boss: 7 Reasons You Should Start an Online Business

Thursday June 28, 2018  •  Lightwork

We've gotta talk about your career — specifically, we've gotta talk about trading in the career you have, for the career you desperately desire.

You might be thinking "My career isn't that bad. Decent income. Good benefits. I'm one of the lucky ones." But, do you really want to settle on a career that "isn't that bad" for the rest of your life? You and I both know you deserve better.

With the transition into The Aquarian Age, we have been blessed with the chance to not only bare witness to the birth and evolution of a new economy, but to help shape it as well. Thanks to the growth and expansion of tools like the internet and other systems and technologies that exist because of it, this new economy gives us a new way of earning money and being able to support ourselves and our families. There has never been a better time in history than right now to be your own boss, share your gifts, and prosper wildly from it, especially for those of us who identify as activists, lightworkers, and/or healers.

So today, I'm sharing with you the top 7 reasons why I love being an entrepreneur, and why I know you will too.

Imagine being able to work anywhere your heart desires. Now it’s true, a lot of entrepreneurs work from home — which I personally love to do, especially now that I have a kid — but if you dream of traveling the world and living without career restrictions, then starting an online business is probably the next best step for you.

When you decide to become a business owner you become way more productive. For me, it was because I was (and still am) super passionate about what I do. You also start to recognize just how much work you have to put into building a profitable business and, if you're taking this seriously, it becomes very clear that you don't have much time to you to binge watch shows on netflix, or participate in any other kinds of time wasters. You begin to value your time and energy immensely and because you now love what you do you want to channel every minute and ounce of time and energy that you do have into building something that makes a difference.

When I first started my business, I was scared. I had a ton of fears that would show up all the time and, if I'm being really honest, they still do periodically. The important thing is that I don’t let them stop me and get in the way of my success.

People are always going to have an opinion about you. They’re always going to judge. They’re always going to have something to say. All you can do is show up in your authenticity and trust that when you do, it matters.

You have to put yourself out there because there are people that you are meant to serve in this lifetime through the work that you do and they won't be able to find you unless you show up. The more you show up and the more you expose yourself to criticism and judgement, the more resilient and confident you become. The trick, is to be so passionate about the message you're here to bring to the world that no one can get in the way of your dreams.

And, the best part? Your wealth has no cap.

Besides witnessing the transformations my clients go through and the results they get from working with me, I definitely have to say that seeing my hard work actually pay off in the form of making more money every year is the most rewarding thing for me. It just feels good to know that there is no glass ceiling (within a company or organization) that I have to break through; that I don’t have to struggle with whether or not I should ask for a raise; and I don’t have to prove to anyone that I deserve a raise.

I love that I can also choose to work for free or give scholarships to my clients whenever I want. I don't have to ask for permission. I get to decide what my income looks like and I love that the only financial rules I’m bound to are the ones I set for myself. (Well, except for the government of course but that’s another conversation.)

Now, of course, as a business owner there will be tasks you absolutely love to do and others not so much. But here’s the difference: first of all, you’re doing all those tasks that you don’t necessarily love to do for yourself, which is still better than having to do it for someone else. Second, if you have the means or the resources to do so, you can absolutely delegate those tasks that you don’t like or are not great at to someone who does and who is.

Depending on your business and where you live in the world, when tax time comes around you can deduct a ton of things like your mortgage, rent, and utilities, if you work from home. You can deduct your new computer or any equipment you use to run your business. You can deduct travel expenses, vehicular expenses and food & entertainment, a bunch of other things as well. It’s pretty cool.

When you are just starting out, you are responsible for fulfilling a ton of different roles. Not only are you a business owner but you’re also the accountant, the publicist and the content creator. You’re the graphic designer, the copywriter, and the customer support liaison. You’re the director of operations, the website designer, and the systems analyst. You are everything. So you get to learn a bunch of new skills and you get to upgrade your existing ones by using them in this kind of entrepreneurial environment. It’s a lot of work but it’s so worth it if you’re willing.

Now that you know my top 7 reasons why I love being an entrepreneur, I’d love to know which one resonated with you the most. Let me know in the comment section below.
